I started making birdhouses a couple of years ago and really watched to see how the birds reacted to them. The one thing that surprised and delighted me was the fact that if I placed seed on their "porch" they would love it! Some birds would share with other birds if they were a social bird to start with. I was careful to wait until after the eggs had hatched. Hence I came up with the Bird "Bed & Breakfast". All of the houses are unique in style and all are made with natural materials such as stone, twigs, moss, bark and whatever other materials I may come across in the woods. Birds seem to be more attracted to the natural materials than painted ones. I try to make each and every one of my Birdhouses have something very special about it. I've combined a lot of my houses to have feeders on the side. I've also built in cleanouts for the houses and most have a board to attach to a tree or fence. Most of the houses are designed for the smaller birds such as wrens, chickadees, finches,nuthatches and birds that are native to your area. I've also started making nesting boxes for robins and swallows. Woodpeckers and other large birds need bigger houses so if there is special bird you're trying to attract let me know and I can build a house accordingly.
