HELLO EVERYONE,
It’s hard to believe that March is half over. I would love to say thanks to everyone who gave us a try this winter
especially those of you who saved a piece of your furniture from going into a landfill.
I have very exciting news, I’m going to be opening a retail store on Mother’s Day weekend.
The store will be in Jackson on the corners of 16 & 16B next to the Thompson House Eatery. It’s something I have
thought about doing for years but could never really find the time to commit to until now. The basis of the store will be
restyled/reupholstered/repurposed furniture and home décor. There are so many great old pieces that with a little
fixing up and some fun fabric you can have something better than a commercial bought piece. Have you ever found
yourself in a second hand shop looking at a piece of furniture or even an old door or window and thought something
cool could be made out of it IF… you had the time or the knowhow? That’s what my shop is all about. Making
something out of nothing. We are using all styles of fabric - including a lot of great retro prints - and having so much
fun with all of them. All furniture has a style but what some people don’t realize is that it can be easily changed with
fabric. We will be selling are lamps , mirrors, tablecloths, tea towels , message boards, drapes, headboards, you
name it - were making it. I’m also very pleased to announce that Joelle Goff will be selling her beautiful floral
paintings. In addition to interior décor we will have lots of garden décor! I will of course be making my birdhouses and
window boxes and we will have colorfully painted Adirondack chairs, annuals in containers and potted perennials.
We are still offering full services of interior and garden design, window treatments, reupholstering, bedding and also
Company C 100% wool area rugs. We have our design department in the loft of the new store and for those of you
who have been to the workroom in Bartlett know it’s a welcome site for all of us!
I look forward to a great summer season. Can’t wait to get my hands dirty and I hope you can come to the store and
see what it’s all about! See you there!

This Month’s Decorating Tip
Speaking of fresh and updated, this month I have renovated two kitchens. New cabinets are really expensive and let’s
face it - a lot of the time when we want something new the old is fine - we’re just tired of them. A great way to get a
new look is PAINT. I know painting cabinets sounds like a crazy thing to do, but if you have out dated dark cabinets
paint can make them look like they came off the showroom floor. Not to mention if you change your wall color you can
change the cabinet color too.
To start out, take off all the cabinet doors and remove the hinges and knobs. Place all the hardware in a large bowl
(trust me on this one all those little screws have a way of disappearing when you turn your back). Take sandpaper
and lightly sand all surfaces that you will be painting, just enough to take the sheen off. Then apply a good quality
primer. After the primer dries the fun part begins! This is where you need to decide what sort of finish you what to
use. You can visit a local paint store and they should have samples of different finishes. My favorite is a distressed
finish. You can also choose a finish of plain paint. There are so many finishes and paint choices these days - the
hardest part is deciding which one to choose. Be sure to get at least a semi-gloss paint because you’ll want to be able
to wash them. If you want to try a special finish and have questions, feel free to call and ask, I would be happy to help.
My master plan is to write a decorating tip once a month until April and then we will be moving out into the garden with
helpful tips out in the yard. In the meantime if you have an idea and would like some help or advice, once again just
give a call or e-mail. Look for Creative Expressions on Community Access Channel 3 on All Things Growing. We
have great topics on the winter series such as taking care of house plants, picking seeds, and what it takes before
you get that beautiful 4 inch pot at the nursery. We will also be talking about different bird feeders, seed and how to
attract them to your yard.
